Mark Meadows cuts into MSNBC reporter live on air: Republicans 'not struggling' to defend Trump
By John Gage
Rep. Mark Meadows walked past an MSNBC reporter during a live segment before coming back and chastising the reporter after she said that Republicans were finding it difficult to defend President Trump over impeachment proceedings.
NBC News correspondent Leigh Ann Caldwell attempted to get the North Carolina Republican to do a hallway interview with her, but he blew by with some aides.
"Hold on, we have Mark Meadows right here," Caldwell said as Meadows ignored her.
"So he, he’s walking by right now," the reporter continued. "But Republicans are really struggling to defend the president."
Meadows then cut back into the frame to tell the reporter, "I’m not struggling on anything, so the Republicans are not struggling on anything."
He went on to say that there was "no quid pro quo" it was "getting easier to defend the president" after witness testimony.
Meadows is one of the top House Republicans and has been a fierce defender of the president during the impeachment process. House Democrats have begun the public phase of the impeachment proceedings after holding closed-door meetings with witnesses in their attempt to piece together whether Trump offered a quid pro quo with Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.
