Hints from Heloise: Speak slowly and with intention
Dear Heloise: Here is something younger reporters don't always hear: we older viewers are working to keep up, and fast talkers lose us. Mumbling makes it worse. Finish the word, pause, then move on - it sounds simple because it is. Reporters who actually do it come across as far more believable than those who rush.
The frequent use of filler words such as "like" can undermine your confidence. For instance, "It's, like, really important" appears less certain than "It's really important." Strong communication is priceless, and the skills that you develop now will benefit your career.

THE CHORE THAT NEVER GETS DONE
Dear Heloise: Dusting is the chore that never gets done for me. Of all the chores on my list, it's the one that I'll find any excuse to skip. But here's the thing -waiting makes it so much worse. A quick pass with a microfiber cloth once a week keeps surfaces looking decent and stops the grime from piling up. Breaking it into chunks helps, too: one room today, another tomorrow. It never becomes fun, but it does get easier.

Vinegar as A HAIR RINSE
Dear Heloise: People have traditionally used vinegar as a hair rinse to balance the scalp and reduce residue. Putting vinegar on your hair sounds harmless enough, but if it's undiluted, it can dry out both the hair shaft and scalp.
You can dilute it at roughly 1 part vinegar to about 3 or 4 parts water. This ratio still clears residue accumulation, smooths the cuticle, and leaves the scalp feeling cleanerwithout the harshness of full-strength products. Some advise letting your hair dry completely before applying hairspray to stop adverse product interactions. If you are uncertain, consult a dermatologist or hairstylist.

VISA RULES
Dear Heloise: I'm so excited for the couple who's spending six months in Paris - a dream come true. But please, do yourselves a favor and check the visa rules before you start packing. We found out the hard way while planning our own extended stay in the
Netherlands. Ninety days in any 180 days - this is the ceiling, and it covers most of Europe, France included.
A weekend trip to London won't buy you extra time either. The United Kingdom runs on its own separate rules, so that's a whole different situation. Look into all of this well before your departure date, not after you've already booked.

TEACH DOGS NOT TO BEG
Dear Heloise: The most effective way to prevent a dog from begging at the table is to prevent the behavior from developing in the first place. Make sure that all household members and guests stick to the plan by not feeding them table scraps. Consistency makes all the difference.
After each meal, head to the kitchen and give your dog a treat there. Over time, your dog will connect calm waiting with a reward, instead of begging at the table. Keep the routine predictable and always offer the treat in the kitchen. Stick to this approach, and your dog can gradually change their behavior.
